Coaching Methodology
Overview
Today, leadership requires a coherent narrative between three vital aspects of life, the self, culture and community, and the visionary impetus. At CMC Group, we work with a whole person approach, helping leaders find their ideal performance state across the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual frameworks. We utilize cutting edge coaching methodologies, including Appreciative Inquiry, social psychology and the neuroscience of relationship and communication. Through aligning and assimilating awareness and capacities, and by supporting the leader across whole person dimensions, we assist individuals in creating a coherent narrative that is self-regulating, motivating, and a powerful leadership platform.
Phase One: Self Awareness
The beginning of the coaching relationship focuses on discovery, learning how the client defines himself/herself, the interpretation of internal dialogue and identification of the Master Story. The work is an exploration of the self first, then self as it exists inside the larger cultural and community context. The Phase One coaching conversation mines belief systems, positive stories of self inside the organization as well as the more limited ones. The goal of this exploration is to build coherence between one’s authentic self, personal presence and skills of observation and purposeful self-regulation.
Phase Two: Purposeful Self-Regulation
Phase Two is based on the premise that leaders set the emotional barometer of any organization. Effective leadership demands that we approach our interactions with a high degree of awareness and skill. To accomplish this, the coaching relationship works to foster cognition of and emotional ownership for the leader’s world view. This is what defines a leader’s situational response to environmental pressures. Tools that leverage positive triggers will be identified and harnessed. New skills will be built to manage those triggers that have a negative affect.
Phase Three: Applied Wisdom
The third phase of the coaching process encourages the client to practice the skills of Wisdom Leadership, creating the link between intellectual clarity and the real-time demands of business and relationships. In this phase, the emphasis is on the existing culture and community and how the leader works within it. There is a focus on communication in this phase, as it remains the currency of our relationships, our business lives and beyond.
Phase Four: Assimilation
Phase Four is about internalizing the new learning and awareness. Practicing new skills facilitates the assimilation process, integrating the learning into the core self and Master Story. Assimilation relies on the bringing the experiences from previous phases and deepening the understanding of how we engage with people and situations. In this phase, are building new neural networks that support greater capacity to re-charge the energy system, which supports greater resilience and stamina.
Phase Five: Mastery ~ Purpose, Intention & Inspiration
A leader in this phase is focused on the creation of a new definition of leadership. This is the ability to create a shared reality, which the entire organization recognizes and embraces. This is an acceptance of the transformational journey. With a deep understanding of the constant movement in all life situations, the leader who is working on mastery understands and purposefully activates the visionary self, sets a new course and forges the necessary alliances. He/she inspires others through the communication of common purpose and clarity of intention.
